Organizing
Residential
When a person contacts me and says "I want to get organized", we start with discussing what that means. "Getting organized" usually is not what motivates someone to take steps to make changes, but "reclaiming my bedroom as a sanctuary" does. I specialize in all areas of the home that need to be reclaimed for their intended purposes, including:
Area | Function |
Attic | Storage |
Garage | Parking & Storage |
Home office | Mail Handling, Bill Paying, Filing, Reading |
Closets | Clothes & Accessories Storage |
Kitchen Cabinets & Pantry | Storage Organization |
Laundry Room | Systems for Clothes Cleaning & Upkeep |
Kids' Playroom | Toys, Books, Games & Media Management |
Bedrooms | Space Management |
Living Areas (Den, LR) | Gathering Place for Family & Friends |
Process
During the first session I work with the client to map out a plan for the client's goal(s), identify "next steps" such as tasks and tools and begin one of the tasks. Homework is usually assigned for the client to do between sessions to keep the process moving. Subsequent sessions can be scheduled in 1 hour increments or more for hands-on work or identifying next steps.
Corporate
Company owners and managers recognize that organizational skills enable an employee to be more productive and in turn, more valuable. I offer services for departments and individual employees seeking skill development or improvement in the following:
Area | Function |
Time Management | Managing Daily & Recurring Tasks & Activities |
Project Management | Developing Plans & Timelines |
E Mail Management | Managing E Mail, Creating Folders & Calendars |
Space Organization | Maintaining Order with Working Space |
Process
Working with an individual employee or groups of employees involves meeting one-on-one to review goals & developmental needs; identifying tools needed for work; establishing a plan of action; & assigning tasks for new skills & habits. Group seminars are also available on such topics as Time Management, E Mail Management & Project Management.
Speciality
Chronic Disorganization
Chronic disorganization (CD) is a feature of a person's life that has affected negatively much of their adult life, and usually had early signs in childhood. While chronic disorganization is a quality of life issue and not a medical condition, it is thought to be a by-product of neurological disorders such as depression, ADD/ADHD, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), among others.
I work both with CD clients and their families. For organizing to be effective and successful for the CD client, methods are used which fit the client's learning and processing styles and include an ongoing maintenance structure.
Process
While general organizing practices are effective, those used with CD clients are tailored to help them get past barriers that have stalled previous organizing attempts. Initial sessions are 2 hours and follow the same pattern as residential organizing but with CD practices.
Hoarding
Currently, hoarding is considered to be a disorder that negatively impacts the quality of a person's life to the extent that areas within their home are non-functional and may be even hazardous. In addition to paper and possession hoarding there can be animal and food hoarding. Most often it is the families of the person who hoards who seek help. Often past interventions with the client have been met with resistance, anger and disengagement. Personal relationships with family and friends may have been damaged or severed. Since outside sources such as Protective Services, landlords, or city ordinance compliance may be creating the impetus for renewed action, a client may no longer be able to refuse outside help. For an intervention to be successful an integrated team approach is necessary.
Process
My role is to be part of the Support Team helping the client and/or family identify who needs to be on the support team; review what the client is willing to do or have done; oversee the development of the Participation Agreement; and assist with the implementation of the activities of the agreement.

Clients | Areas for Growth & Improvement |
Individual Effectiveness | Time Management, Communication Skills, Goal Setting, Follow Through, Life Skills |
Students | Project Management, Study Skills, Planning, Procrastination |
Professionals | Career Planning, Resume Preparation, Productivity |
Process
The coaching process may be conducted in person, by phone or by email. A coach's role is to help the individual clarify issues, set goals, develop a plan of action and keep on track. It is a relationship of mutual trust, respect and cooperation without the "shoulds" that can get in the way of working through issues. The cornerstone of the coach/client approach is accountability, which builds follow through for the client. Phone coaching sessions are 30-45 minutes in length and recur 1-3 times per month; email coaching is available on a message package rate. In-person sessions are based on the same rates as in-person organizing.
